Ascona Prize for
Studies in Forms of Art Therapy

On behalf of the "Foundation for Psychosomatic and Social Medicine" once every two years the "International Association for Art, Creativity and Therapy" will award the

Ascona Prize

to students and professionals in the field of art therapy. Applicants are invited to send in a thesis describing a practical clinical or outpatient project. All creative therapy forms will be considered whether paint, music, dance, theater or poetry therapy. An emphasis should be placed on the therapist's personal experience in relating with the patient(s), including reflections on the emotional and nonverbal dimensions. Only in certain exceptions will a thesis be considered which is devoted to research or to addressing fundamental questions of creative therapies. (Masters and doctorate theses will not be considered for the competition - among other things, simply due to their length).

The jury will judge the submitted projects based on the following criteria:

1. Exposition: the introduction should clearly describe the scope of the project, the problems confronted and the main objectives while also distinctly addressing the therapist's personal relationship to the project and the patient(s).
2. Practical Section: the description of the therapeutic methods should include, where applicable, reasons for excluding other forms of therapy as well as an evaluation of the results.
3. Reflection: the therapeutic methods and results presented should be briefly brought into perspective with regards to diagnostic and theoretical consequences and within the context of relevant literature.
4. Bibliography: each quoted reference should be listed by author's name followed by the book title, place and date of publication (not separated by a comma), and the page numbers (without using "p"); for magazine essays the format should be: "title of the essay" in: title of the magazine, issue, page numbers (without "p").

Applicants may submit theses in German, French, English or Italian. The maximum length should not exceed 30 written pages, whereas the use of pictures or graphics may increase the actual number of printed pages.

Prizes will be awarded for a total of CHF 4,000.- for the three (with splitting, four) best theses.

Four copies of the thesis, including a brief professional c.v. should be submitted during the month of February 06 to:
